Fox Chapel golfers and their coaches repeatedly walked in and out of the banquet room where the leaderboard was Thursday at Cedarbrook, their emotions rising and falling as scores were posted.
Knowing they had a team capable of going shot-for-shot with defending champion Peters Township, the Foxes nervously waited for the numbers to come in, for the results to unveil their final standing.
After realizing the outcome would be a runner-up finish in the WPIAL Class AAA championship, Foxes coach Bryan Deal was somewhat subdued, but he also was impressed by his team’s fight.
The Foxes gave it a run.
